Fremantle Festival Parade Part 2: The Actual Parade

Whoa - it's been quite a while since I last updated! Just got back from Switzerland - and am now trying to recover from jetlag. Switzerland was beautiful...lots of time spent on trains but also lots of pics to share soon! I think I accumulated a total of 13 gigs worth of photos!

Today's post will be on the Fremantle Festival Parade - apologies for being so backdated - I've had lots of stuff to sort out, including moving apartments! And right now - since things are all settled, I finally have time to post the pictures from the parade...

So - before the parade began, I was actually gallivanting around Fremantle. The procession was just getting ready for the big event.

Slogans from one of the environmental activist groups...

Performers from the WA Circus School getting ready for their routine - they ended up being one of the first few to walk down the roads. Some were on stilts, but many had elaborate headdresses...

WA Police Pipe Band - these folks led the parade procession, and were chatting happily away when I took their pic. It was quite warm that day too - so some of the people weren't too impressed...

The Artist Wallbook Procession - getting their folks lined up for the parade...

Took this pic of the spotted Roundhouse (temporarily spotted though!) as I headed down the road. I found a really good spot down the streets - a road intersection in fact - where I could take pics of the event itself.

And here we go! The parade commenced and I was so busy taking pics, changing lens...doing everything I could to get as many pics as I could.

First up - the Circus - with their multi-talented performers...they seemed to walk so effortlessly on stilts!

Sultry samba dancer strutting her stuff - as though she was walking down the catwalk! At one point she even posed for us!

Environmental activists and primary schools also participated in the event. The primary school kids had themes - some nautical, others environmental...but they had pretty cool costumes anyway! Many of the messages conveyed revolved around being environmentally friendly, and there was one procession where animal export was protested against. All these - accompanied by percussion instruments and all!

More bagpipe performances coming through!

The "two introverts" was a bit of an oddity - I wonder where they came from! But they seemed to blend in well with the parade...and they left just as the Bassonovas (a percussion band) came in and wrapped up the entire procession.

And I found a list of the participants in the parade - so I took a pic...

And that's it for today! Soon I'll be posting my Swiss photos - can't wait to share them!
